Before its debut in 2019, Moulin Rouge! The Musical had to meet high expectations of exceeding or no less than being at par with the original film of the same name. As viewers can attest to, Moulin Rouge! The Musical has become one of Broadway's treasures with an immensely positive reception from viewers all over the world. Broadway World’s Miranda Keating even praised the production after watching, saying “Honestly, as as soon as the show began, I was immediately transported into the heart-racing love story of Christian and Satine. When all was said and done, I originally had no words. I was absolutely enamored with what I just watched.” The show resumes its runs to date, now in New York and to be produced at Al Hirschfeld Theatre on Saturday 28th September 2024, Al Hirschfeld Theatre renowned for being one of the country's best theatre venues with creative architecture, sound design, and classy decor both inside and outside of the theatre.
Moulin Rouge's plot itself is a fresh retelling of the 2001 film focused on Christian and Satine, an American composer arrives in Montmartre to jumpstart his career as a writer and composer, and a performer in the Moulin Rouge nightclub, respectively. Christian and Satine fall madly in love as they become more acquainted with each other, and it is in their entanglement that they go back and forth as they try to unsuccessfully stop themselves, though their love for each other pushes them on.
In the duration of 2 hours and 45 minutes of the full show, this story is shared largely through song and dance, with unbelievable arrangements from the production, which is a blend of mash-ups, medleys, and even classical numbers. Manchester Media Group was quoted that the musical is “a musical full of life because of its brilliant cast and crew.” From the 19th century set to the modern pop numbers, the musical’s intensity reveals itself; add to that the fact that even the cast is composed of singer superstars including Aaron Tveit and Karen Olivo performing the title roles of Christian and Satine and you have a box office hit on your hands.
