Moulin Rouge – The Musical at Al Hirschfeld Theatre

During its brainstorming stage, Moulin Rouge! The Musical had to meet high expectations of exceeding or at minimum being at a matched level with the 2001 motion picture created by Baz Luhrmann. The musical's current success tells us that Moulin Rouge! The Musical has become one of Broadway's treasures with repeated standing ovations from both fans and critics alike. Broadway World’s Miranda Keating even praised the production after viewing, saying “To be frank, as as soon as the show began, I was immediately transported into the heart-racing love story of Christian and Satine. When the production ended, I originally had nothing to say. The play's storyline itself is your classic and tragic love story focused on Christian and Satine, an American writer travels to Paris to look for something to inspire him, and a star performer in the Moulin Rouge entertainment venue, respectively. They enter into a forbidden love as they get to know each other, and it is in their dalliance that they go back and forth as they try to unsuccessfully stop themselves, though their love for each other pushes them on.

In the running time of 2 hours and 45 minutes of the entire musical, this story is told largely through music, with unbelievable musical scoring from the production, which is a blend of mash-ups, medleys, and even classical numbers. Manchester Media Group stated that the musical is “an experience for the senses as soon as you arrive.” From the 19th century set to the modern pop numbers, the musical’s brilliance shines through; consider the fact that even the cast members are composed of singer heavyweights such as Aaron Tveit and Karen Olivo leading the title roles of Christian and Satine and you have another Broadway gem on your hands.
