Moulin Rouge - The Musical

Al Hirschfeld Theatre

The 2001 Baz Luhrmann film, Moulin Rouge received nominations at the 74th Academy Awards and grossed nearly $180 million worldwide. This beloved musical film about love and tragedy wasn't forgotten and is now a hit stage production performed around the globe. The Broadway show took years in the making since there were merely whispers of a Broadway adaptation in 2002 and 2006. But in 2016, it was at last announced that this glitzy film would hit the stage. The musical finally debuted in 2019 but took a year-and-a-half break starting in 2020 thanks to worldwide events, but it has been up and performing since mid-2021 with great success.

The tale of music composer Christian and Parisian entertainer Satine will melt your heart. Christian meets talented French Bohemians who want to write songs for a theatrical production and decide to partner with him to get their play into production at the Moulin Rouge theater. Satine works at this theater, but it's quickly going under and has a real risk of shutting down. Satine wants to save the Moulin Rouge and considers seducing a wealthy Duke who has shown interest in investing in the theater to save it. However, Satine and Christian cross paths and feelings become complex. Of course, the Duke doesn't like Satine falling for Christian and threatens to chancel his investment, and poses a real threat to Christian's life if he doesn't leave Satine alone.

This breathtaking tale of love and glamour will have you on the edge of your seat. You'll fall in love with these characters and the music they perform. The jukebox musical combines many songs to create catchy mash-ups you won't stop singing for weeks. You'll hear the songs from the movie from Patti LaBelle, Elton John, and more, with recent hits from Katy Perry, Lorde, and many others. If you love pop music hits from the past 50 years, you won't want to miss this enthralling story that will have you moving to the rhythm as you enjoy the show.

Whether you grab your friends, family, a date, or go alone, you won't want to miss "Moulin Rouge!” The romantically spicy play tells a story about love, truth, and beauty and does so with excitement.
