On Tuesday 3rd December 2024, Moulin Rouge! The Musical will finally be arriving in New York and produced in New York, in none other than Al Hirschfeld Theatre! Adapted from the late 2001 film directed, created, and co-written by Baz Luhrmann, Moulin Rouge! The Musical is a live retelling of a tale of two secret lovers focused on Christian, an American composer, and Satine, the Moulin Rouge nightclub entertainer. The Broadway musical, which debuted at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in less than a decade ago, attempts a modern approach by developing on the Baz Luhrmann's film, especially with musical arrangements, with over 70 numbers prepared by 161 composers reaching the first showing on the live stage.

Since its premiere in Broadway at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in half a decade ago up to its present run in Al Hirschfeld Theatre, Moulin Rouge! The Musical has been one of the best shows sought out by local and international audiences. The show, being an adaptation of a successful film, appeals to a large diversity of fans and has cemented its spot in Broadway success.
The musical shares the story of Christian, a motivated American writer who travels to Paris in search of inspiration and his big break, who then meets and unexpectedly falls in love with the star entertainer Satine of the Moulin Rouge nightclub, one of the most famous entertainment venues in Montmartre in the late 19th century. Their relationship however is more difficult than imagined, as the couple suddenly face a string of challenges, including the ire of one of Moulin Rouge’s wealthy patrons, the duke of Monroth who eyes Satine for himself and prevents Christian from pursuing Satine romantically.
The roles of Christian and Satine were originated by Award-winning actor Aaron Tveit (for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical), and Tony Award Nominee Karen Olivo (for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical) respectively. They were supported by a star-studded and equally-awarded cast including Danny Burstein (Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical), and Tony Award Nominee Sahr Ngaujah (Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical) making up one of the best Broadway casts. Running the production, Tony awardees such as Alex Timbers (Best Direction of a Musical), Sonya Tayeh (Best Choreography), and Justin Levine with Katie Kresek, Charlie Rosen, and Matt Stine (Best Orchestrations) create an astounding show.
