A story of difficult love between an unlikely pair, Moulin Rouge! The Musical recounts to us a tragic yet swoonworthy story in the equally intimate city of Paris, France. In the underbelly of Montmartre, Christian, a motivated writer who journeys in Montmartre with an aim to succeed in writing, encounters the would-be love of his life and club entertainer, Satine, in the nightclub Moulin Rouge. Christian and Satine then start to have romantic encounters, but in secret, as another wealthy benefactor sets his target on Satine as his woman.

Created as an offshoot that was produced more than a decade after the late motion picture, this musical's early challenge was to keep a relatively old plot relevant to a new audience. The best move of the crew, just like the 2001 film, was to present the secret romantic affair with never heard of renditions of this generation's pop arrangements. The obvious solution was to supersize the score and truly make it into a “jukebox musical with a difference”, as the creators call it. The outcome, as viewed on the actual stage, was a melting pot of second to none medleys, mash-ups, and arrangements. Though the show keeps many of the 2001 film's favorite songs including Lady Marmalade, the Broadway show now includes pop songs from the recent decade including Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance, Beyonce’s Single Ladies, and Britney Spears’ Toxic that is more familiar to younger audiences.
