Moulin Rouge – The Musical at Al Hirschfeld Theatre

In the first stages of its conception, Moulin Rouge! The Musical needed to meet high expectations of exceeding or at minimum being at a matched level with the previous movie produced before it. The musical's current success tells us that Moulin Rouge in Broadway has more than lived up to the name with an impressive turnout each show from both fans and critics alike. Moulin Rouge's narrative itself is your classic and tragic love story following Christian and Satine, an American writer travels to Paris to find out his dream and path in life, and a star entertainer in the Moulin Rouge nightclub, respectively. Christian and Satine begin a secret affair as they become more acquainted with each other, and it is in their affair that they endanger themselves because of a jealous benefactor, though their love for each other pushes them on.

In the duration of 2 hours and 45 minutes of the entire play, this show is presented mostly through song, with outstanding scoring from the production, which is a combination of mash-ups, medleys, and even classic tunes. Manchester Media Group stated that Moulin Rouge is “an audio and visual masterpiece that translated beautifully on stage.” From the 19th century set to the modern pop numbers, the musical’s brilliance is very evident; plus the fact that even the actors and actresses are composed of singer superstars like Aaron Tveit and Karen Olivo leading the characters of Christian and Satine and you have another Broadway gem on your hands.
