Moulin Rouge – The Musical at Al Hirschfeld Theatre

Moulin Rouge! The Musical will be showing on Wednesday 6th November 2024 at Al Hirschfeld Theatre. Al Hirschfeld Theatre, New York’s premier theatre venue, has long been the ultimate choice for play and musical adaptations due to its sheer size, seating capacity, and top-tier facilities. this play is another Broadway musical to add to the list of world-class shows that have premiered in Al Hirschfeld Theatre.

A secret affair in the middle of a bustling city, Moulin Rouge! The Musical tells us a devoted but difficult love story in the equally romantic locale of Paris, France. At the center of Montmartre, Christian, a motivated American writer who journeys in Paris, France with nothing but hope in his heart, meets the most beautiful woman he has seen and club entertainer, Satine, in the famous club Moulin Rouge. Christian and Satine then choose to keep their developing love a secret, as another wealthy benefactor sets his eyes on Satine as his muse.

Created as an offshoot that was staged more than a decade after the 2001 film, Moulin Rouge! The Musical’s first hurdle was to keep a relatively old plot relevant to a new audience. The best move of the team, just like the previous movie, was to present the 2019 stage adaptation with never heard of renditions of modern pop culture numbers. The next move was to expand the musical numbers and truly make it into a “jukebox musical with a difference”, as the production team refer to it. The result, as viewed on the Broadway stage, was an enormous collection of unbelievable medleys, mash-ups, and renditions. Though the Broadway play keeps some of the original film's favorite songs including Lady Marmalade, Moulin Rouge now has pop hits from more recent years including Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance, Beyonce’s Single Ladies, and Britney Spears’ Toxic performed in unique arrangements.
