A story of difficult love between an unlikely pair, Moulin Rouge! The Musical tells us a tragic yet swoonworthy story in the equally passionate locale of Paris, France. In the underbelly of Montmartre, Christian, a traveling composer who arrives in Paris with the goal of achieving his dreams, stumbles upon the most beautiful woman he has seen and star performer, Satine, in the famous club Moulin Rouge. Christian and Satine then start to have romantic encounters, but in secret, as another jealous man sets his eyes on Satine as his prize.

Created as an offshoot that was created more than 10 years after the 2001 film, Moulin Rouge! The Musical’s first hurdle was to keep a relatively old plot relevant to a new audience. The masterful approach of the production, just like the original film, was to share the secret romantic affair with unexpectedly new renditions of modern popular numbers. The obvious solution was to add tremendously to the musical numbers and truly turn it into a “a modern retelling of Moulin Rouge”, as the producers call it. The product, as viewed on the actual stage, was a melting pot of outstanding medleys, mash-ups, and numbers. Though the show stays true to several of the original movie's favorite songs including Lady Marmalade, the Broadway show now includes pop songs from more recent years including Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance, Beyonce’s Single Ladies, and Britney Spears’ Toxic that is more familiar to younger audiences.
